Who we are?

Right now, Ducks United is a nostalgic holiday car rental company. Ducks United was created in the spring of 2009 on Ibiza by a bunch of Dutch people wanting to set up a business that is the ultimate combination of Hip Entrepreneurship, Coolness, and Charity. The idea is to give holiday makers a unique, nostalgic experience in driving nostalgic cars, make them part of a club of likeminded people, and at the same time offer a premium service. Around this core business, Ducks United organizes events, dinners etc. in order to raise funds for water related charity activities.

Summer 2009 was Ducks United’s first season when we brought 5 Ducks to Ibiza. At the core of the company is its Duck Citroen 2CV rental business (“Duck” is the nickname the Dutch gave to the 2CV). Last year we brought more Ducks to the island, and started with our now infamous Duck Dinners, and organised very successful opening and closing parties. This year we started Ducks United on Curacao and brought the first Burton cars to Ibiza. The next step is to set up shop in Mallorca, and who knows where else in the future!

Our mission is certainly to make this core business a success, but we have a vision that is larger than that:  we want to be the cool charity brand with whom the Hip and Happy from Berlin, London, Amsterdam and anywhere really, want to identify themselves. At the heart of our mission is the belief that we live in a time where people want make fun, lots of it, as much as possible, but at the same time also want to help create a better world. We believe that there are lots of other cool brands around that share our values and that we can affiliate ourselves.

All this of course we cannot achieve without partners (Duck Partners). These are companies on the islands where we are active that share our vision and that we are happy to work with,  and that offer special services to our customers or for whom we would like to be of value ourselves.

The story of Ramon Bruijne, co-founder of Ducks United

My love for the Duck started when I was a 4 year-old boy and rode with my mother in the backseat of her brand new, lavender blue Citroen 2cv special. Ever since, Ducks were my passion. As soon as I got my driver license I bought my first Duck. And ever since I drove one.

Later on in life, next to my job as a wine expert and chef, I went to work in a 2CV specialist garage and learned all the tricks of Ducks repair and maintenance. And became even more hooked on the cute Ducklings.

In early 2009 I ended up by chance together with a good friend, Mark Rottinghuis, also Duck Lover, on Ibiza with a Duck and we were struck by how cool it was to cruise around in one there. So when a friend of ours moved to Ibiza, we came up with the idea to give her a Duck to take with her (with the idea of course that we could drive it too when there). Shortly after Mark came back from a vacation and said "Ramon, let's just go and rent Ducks on Ibiza”.

Within a few weeks daydreaming turned in planning, and plans into reality! So this is how it all began, 1 Duck soon became more Ducks, and then more again.

And it proved a success, not only is Ibiza the ideal island for these cars, many of our customers fell a little bit in love with this timeless cute car.

Besides having fun bringing the Ducks to more islands, we want to offer our customers more than just a rental car, and at the same time it is our mission to have as many Ducks as possible driving around for a good cause.

A portion of our proceeds on Ibiza goes to the Max Foundation, a foundation that provides safe drinking water to the underprivileged in poor countries.

For what is a Duck without water ... ... ....?!
